National Backpack Awareness Day 2004 September 22, 2004 is our third annual National School Backpack Awareness Day. We want to continue to educate parents, students, school administrators and teachers, and the media about how to pack and wear backpacks to minimize the risk of injury. The campaign's overall goal is to broaden the public's understanding of the positive differences occupational therapy makes in people's lives. Over 1000 occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and students conducted weigh-in events last year, and reached over 15,000 children nationwide. This year we're hoping to double that number! In 2003, coverage of weigh-in events was extensive in both the print and broadcast media. More than 50 television stations carried stories about Backpack Awareness Day, dozens of newspapers around the country wrote stories, and many news organizations linked to the web page. Last year, more than 3,000 occupational therapists and 15,000 children nationwide participated in the event. AOTA and The Fund encourage you to achieve visibility on every level by participating in this event. With this corporate sponsorship, your company logo will appear:
Community Toolkit Sponsorship To help occupational therapy practitioners and their supporters communicate the value of the profession more effectively, The Fund will oversee the development and dissemination of awareness toolkits in a variety of occupational therapy practice settings. This new resource will encourage occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, students and schools to clearly communicate the roles, capabilities and value of the profession to external audiences and decision makers.
