Listserv
You may want to print or save this message for future reference.
The following list guidelines are intended to protect the good of all parties.
- The list may not be used for job advertising or for recruiting occupational therapy practitioners.
- The list may not be used for the sale of services or products.
- Subscribers should maintain professional standards in written e-mail messages, avoiding the use of insult, slander, profanity, or obscenity.
- Subscribers should use care as well as common courtesy in written communication. E-mail offers a new communication form and hastily composed, unclear messages can easily be misinterpreted.
- Since lists are available for a variety of practice areas, keep e-mail discussions relevant to the practice domain for this list.
- List subscribers who disregard these guidelines will be warned privately by e-mail on the first incident and unsubscribed from the list on the second incident.
The discussion on this particular electronic mailing list focuses on management and administrative issues of interest to occupational therapy practitioners in administrative or managerial roles. Discussion happens through the asking and answering of questions and the sharing of resources via e-mail. As a list subscriber, individuals receive copies of all e-mail sent to this listserv. When an e-mail message is sent to this listserv by a subscriber a copy is e-mailed to all subscribers.
Protecting Copyright
Copyright laws do apply to electronic communications such as e-mail and the World Wide Web. Before you post anything on e-mail or to a listserv, ask yourself whether you have the right to distribute that information. The same applies if you are posting to a web site.
As a rule of thumb:
- Sending the text of any published item (article, letter, editorial, etc.) through e-mail, either to an individual or a listserv, violates the copyright unless you first obtain written permission from the copyright holder. So does posting the item to a web site.
- Putting a notice of copyright on an item is insufficient. If you haven't obtained written permission you risk violating copyright.
- Sending an unpublished article through e-mail can raise questions about authorship and put your right to copyright the article at risk. So does posting it to a web site.
- If you are the copyright holder, consider whether posting your item on the Internet could damage its printed value. In other words, will people decide not to buy the book or magazine because they've already read the article?
Sending an article through electronic media is just like distributing paper copies, but more worrisome because it is so easy for the recipient to forward the article to additional people. If there is something you want people to see, direct them to the place where they can read it for themselves - a newspaper, magazine, or an Internet site.
This listserv allows you to perform all functions either by e-mail or from the AOTA website Listserv Page.
