Backpack Day 2007 Receives Local and National
Attention!
Every year, AOTA's National School Backpack Awareness
Day serves as an important public awareness outreach tool. The
event gives practitioners the chance to put the
profession's best foot forward in each
community.
This year's Backpack Day was no different. Occupational
therapy students, practitioners and professors held events in
46 states reaching more than 25,000 students!
Best of all, local and national media paid close attention
to the important message of "Pack It Light, Wear It
Right." The media stories helped to educate consumers on
the importance of occupational therapy services. AOTA ran an
extensive national public relations campaign, and members who
held events also were able to garner local press coverage. As a
result, the airwaves, newspapers and internet were full of
positive press for the profession.
A few of the noteable media stories were included
in
- Parenting magazine
- Real Simple magazine
- United Press International wire
service
- The Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper and 35 other
local newspapers
- More than 40 local television interviews in cities ranging
from New York, to Toledo, Tulsa, and New Orleans.
Though one day a year is specifically set aside as School
Backpack Awareness Day, the materials can be used at any time. For
